This weekend there will be marches across the country in opposition to the administration’s push for a new Constitution and the perceived movement towards an extreme left government.
In Cusco, the march starts begin gathering today at 11 am at Limaqpampa — just a two blocks from my home — and is scheduled to begin marching at 4 pm likely through the historical center of Cusco, but that is not clear yet.
It will be interesting to see just how large the march will be in Cusco. While marches in other parts of the country are likely to be very large, Cusco voted heavily in favor of President Castillo and participation could be small. In speaking to many residents, however, support for many of his policies is waning based on the first two weeks of his administration.
Be aware that traffic all over Cusco may be a huge mess this afternoon as even small protests can clog up already congested traffic thanks to many major arteries closed due to construction.
