I went up on this day with the intention of photographing the Intihuatana sector including the rare Intihuatana stone and got quite a few nice shots. You can read more about this day in my blog post, A Day Exploring Pisac.
The trail coming up from the town below gas some breathtaking scenery. Always remember to turn around and look behind so some of the most beautiful views don’t escape you! The sleepy tourist town of Pisac lies below the ruins. Look for Inca steps jutting out from the terrace walls. The climb up to the ruins will be worth it! This residential section of Pisac wraps itsself around the mountainside. The sacred Intihuatana stone lies protected within the walled ring high above the Urubamba valley. The sacred flower of the Incas (and the Peruvian national flower) can be found here.

This was my first time to visit the Pisac ruins and I thoroughly enjoyed it! As it was still Peruvian summer, everything was still green and the waterfalls were flowing making for some spectacular scenery.
I made the mistake of taking this route up. You can tell it’s not used very often — for good reason! Fountains and water channels still flow centuries later in the Intihuatana Sector. The 3-step sone below the Intihuatana represent a motif common in all Inca sites. The Intihuatana Sector high above the ruins. Round Inca walls are extremely rare. I’ll never take this route up the mountain again. If you’re the least bit afraid of heights, you won’t either! Several waterfalls on the way up provide a few pictureque spots when the water is flowing. These terraces ear the start of the climb up from the village should give you an idea of what lies ahead as you make your way to the top. (It’s still not too late to go back and find a taxi!) This is the view you get — when the water is flowing — when you first enter the site from the village Pisac.
